This is the hardest part of pet ownership, and unfortunately, we all experience it. At Grantview, our goal is to help you make the right decision for your furry friend at the right time. This time can look different for everyone, but focusing on what is right for your pet (and recognizing that does not always mean what is right for you) is what matters. Whether you are looking for guidance with mobility concerns, cognitive decline, or chronic disease management, we are here to help you navigate it. And when the day comes, we will walk with you to help your pet pass peacefully and with dignity.
What to Expect:
When you decide it is time for euthanasia (or even if you need some help reaching that decision), please contact the office to schedule an appointment. By scheduling an appointment rather than walking in, it ensures we have the space and time to properly address your concerns and care for your pet. We know this isn’t an easy appointment to make; our staff are here to help.
When you arrive at the clinic, you will be ushered into a private room where we can discuss the procedure as well as your wishes for your pet’s remains. We offer several keepsake items at the clinic, including a clay paw imprint and a vial of your pet’s fur.
Your pet will then receive an injection of a sedative, which helps ease your pet into restful sleep so that an IV catheter may be placed with minimal to no stress for your pet. The doctor will then administer the euthanasia solution, which is an overdose of a general anesthetic agent. Throughout this entire process, we invite you to be present with your pet for as much as you are able.
Please know that we are here to make things as easy as possible for you and your beloved pet on what we know is an incredibly hard day.
